30th August 2014 Att - 29 ROCKLEAZE RANGERS 1 E.Freeman CHIPPING SODBURY TOWN 1 D.Coombes Chipping Sodbury remain top of the league despite dropping points for the first time this season at Rockleaze Rangers.
Sodbury started the stronger and only a brilliant save from Rangers keeper Sam Burgess prevented Justin Cattle giving them the lead after 4 minutes. The home side had a great chance to take the lead in the 13th minute but Aaron Day headed wide of the target with just the keeper to beat. Ed Freeman also squandered a good chance to put the home side into the lead but it was the visitors who went in front in the 39th minute when Burgess misjudged the ball after it took a bobble and this left Danny Coombes the simple job of running the ball into the net from outside the box. Although both sides created chances in the second half it was Rangers who scored in the 55th minute from a forty five yard free kick from Sam Andrews that was met by Ed Freeman on the far post to sent a looping header over the Sodbury keeper to level the score. |

20th September 2014 Att - 47 CHIPPING SODBURY TOWN 2 D.Coombes M.England KINGSWOOD 0 After the home win against Kingswood, Sodbury move up the table to third place.
Chipping Sodbury Town got back to league action after a two week lay off due to Cup commitments with a 2-0 win at home to local rivals Kingswood. For the first 38 minutes of this game both sides failed to break through their defences although the home side did force several corners one of which looked dangerous until the Kingswood keeper Chris Fox rose well to fist the ball away. Neither side had managed a shot on target until the 39th minute when Kingswood should have taken the lead as Paul Bleakens cross into the box found Tom Higgins with space to shoot but he hit his shot straight at home keeper George Hale. A couple of minutes later Sodbury’s Sam Jenkins let fly from the edge of the box but it went just wide. Right on half time Kingswood were caught out with a quickly taken free kick which found Danny Coombes on the right and from the edge of the box he sent over a looping shot that cleared keeper Fox and dropped under the bar at the far post. The reaction of the Sodbury players on taking the lead that it had been a lucky strike. The second half went to the home side who created a number of chances to increase the lead with Shots from Danny Coombes and a couple from Justin Cattle bringing the best out of keeper Chris Fox. The visitors first real strike on goal came after 59 minutes a ball squared across the edge of the box for Simon Clark who struck the ball well but it went straight to George Hale. Sodbury got a second goal on 70 minutes from a Kingswood free kick that was struck well but rebounded back up field and the home side caught the visitors defence out and a cross into Mike England gave him the opportunity to stab the ball past Fox. Kingswood had another chance to pull a goal back on 73 minutes from a free kick on the edge of the box that was well struck by Simon Clark but George Hale dived full length to push the ball away for a corner. Ollie Clark then missed a great opportunity to make it 3 - 0 to the home side and then right at the end George Hale pulled off a great save to deny Gary Simmons a goal for Kingswood. |

The home side took a little while to get going but took the lead in the 22nd minute with powerful left foot drive from Justin Cattle following a corner.

11th October 2014 Att - Unknown CHIPPING SODBURY TOWN 1 T.Baker ROMAN GLASS ST. GEORGE 2 K.Douglas S.Bhakerd The home side were much the better outfit in the first 45 minutes and went a goal up on 20 minutes with a fantastic 30 yard drive from Tim Baker. The rest of the half Town squandered numerous chances to have put the game to bed but failed to get the ball in the net again. The failure to score again by The Sods bit them in the backside on half time when Kris Douglas scrambled the ball home following a corner to make it 1 - 1.
Second half the Romans woke up and were much the better side. They went ahead in the 52nd minute after a mix up in the home defence allowed Shah Bhakerd to net. A poor second half performance from Chipping Sodbury against the Western League Div 1 side cost them a place in the next round of the county cup. |

18th October 2014 Att - 51 FRAMPTON UNITED 0 CHIPPING SODBURY TOWN 2 K.Simpson J.Cattle The weather stayed fine for a trip to Frampton United for Chipping Sodbury Town this week. The first ten minutes was fairly even with a half chance to open the scoring fell to Danny Coombes whose clear shot on goal from the edge of the box went well over the bar. As the game progressed the visitors were using the pace of Coombes Jenkins and Simpson to try to make the break through knocking long balls to the flanks and relying on good service into the box. Frampton defended very well and cut out most of the crosses knocked into their box with keeper Scott Gearon playing his part on several occasions. The best chance fell to the visitors after 35 minutes from a Danny Coombes cross into the box from the right flew across the six yard box with Justin Cattle only managing the faintest of touches. The home side’s only real chance came in the 39th minute from a cross into the box that sped past keeper George Hale but was safely cleared away.
What ever was said in the home dressing room at half time certainly worked as the Frampton side took the game to Sodbury right from the off. Four minutes into the half a great shot from Matt Cook caught Hale by surprise as the ball rebounded off of him to Chris Fower and with the goal at his mercy he hooked the ball form six yards at the target only to see a Sodbury defender fling himself across the goal and deflect the ball away. At this stage Frampton were in charge and the visitors were struggling to keep them out. In the 56th minute and against the run of play the unthinkable happened as a long ball was pumped up field by the visitors it came to Kye Simpson on the left side of the box, he took a couple of touches before unleashing a superb curling shot that bent around keeper Scott Gearon into the Frampton net. Frampton still pushed forward and only a very good save by George hale prevented Matt Cook from levelling the score. Frampton felt they should have had a penalty when Steve Jackson went down in the box but it was turned away by the match officials. A second goal from the visitors in the 81st minute prodded home by Justin Cattle took the stuffing out of the home side, but they were unlucky on the day. |

15th November 2014 Att - 47 CHIPPING SODBURY TOWN 6 J.Cattle x5 D.Coombes BERKELEY TOWN 1 T.Palmer Chipping Sodbury Town showed no mercy to bottom Club Berkeley Town hammering them 6 - 1. The star of the show was undoubtedly their striker Justin Cattle who found the back of the net on five occasions. Cattle opened his account after 4 minutes when he beat the keeper to the ball from a cross by Josh Cann. Cattle’s second on the half hour mark came from a cross from Dan Bendall that he fired low into the net.
Berkeley Town were given a life line in the 44th minute after Josh Cann brought down Dan Gaynor in the box and Tom Palmer netted the spot kick. A break down the flank in 59th minute brought a third goal for the home side as Dan Bendall and Justin Cattle interchanged passes before Cattle squared the ball for Danny Coombes to score. Cattle then scored twice in the space of 5 minutes 80 and 85 with one on one situation with the keeper. Cattle rounded the scoring off in the 90th minute when he ran onto a long ball over the Berkeley defence before rounding the keeper. The one sad note for Sodbury was the dismissal of James Mackie. |

Chipping Sodbury Town gave Bristol Telephones a shock when they inflicted a 5 - 2 reverse. Telephones who are noted for their free scoring were on the receiving end this time. It was the home side who got off the mark first after 12 minutes a Dhani Golding cross was fired home by Adam Gregory. In the 18th minute Gregory failed to clear the ball from the edge of the box and Luke Meacham moved into the box and slotted the ball home. Telephones thought they had scored a second on 41 minutes but it was ruled out for a push on the keeper.
They were also disappointed in the 54th minute when they appealed for handball in the box but it was waved away. Sodbury went ahead in the 61st minute from a corner from the left misjudged by the home keeper and Jack Smyth was there to knock the ball in. 4 minutes later Smyth was on hand to head home his second and put the visitors 3 - 1 up. Sodbury had been the better side in the first half and were unlucky on not to take the lead on two occasions with the ball striking the upright and the crossbar. A much better performance from the home side in the second period prevented the visitors from scoring until the 70th minute when Sodbury’s Justin Cattle hit a tremendous shot from 25 yards that saw the home keeper getting his hands to the ball but was unable to prevent it going in. The home side started brightly and two good early chances were missed by Justin Cattle and James Mackie. The home side looked much the better side but had to wait until the 26th minute to open the scoring when a brilliant through ball from Sam Jenkins gave James Mackie the opportunity to drive the ball past the keeper from 15 yards. A Danny Coombes cross from the right on 35 minutes saw Justin Cattle rise to head home the second.

10th January 2015 Att - 47 CHIPPING SODBURY TOWN 1 D.Coombes BRISTOL TELEPHONES 3 C.Misir D.Goldings A.McQuaid The Sods who originally were without a fixture today requested a fixture and had their game with Bristol Telephones brought forward from March. Right from the off the visitors were the better side and went away with 3 well earned points. Chris Misir should have done better with a shot that went over the bar on 4 minutes for Phones.
A few minutes later Keiron Golding had a clear shot on goal but that also went way over the top. At the other end Danny Coombes had his effort blocked twice in Sodbury’s first effort on goal. Ben Weaver hit a good low shot at the visitor’s goal but it went just wide of the post. In the 18th minute the visitors thought they had scored but the referee disallowed the goal for an infringement on home keeper Chris Simsek. A cross from Danny Coombes to the far post just eluded Justin Cattle. Ben Weaver might have given the home side the lead on 30 minutes but he squeezed his shot wide. The best chance fell to Phones Aaron McQuaid on 34 minutes - clear on goal he tried to chip Simsek but the keeper read it well and plucked it out of the air. Things starting happening right from the start of the second period with the visitors driving forward right from the off. It was the home side who almost took the lead in the 51st minute but Phones keeper Chris Blammon pulled of a great save to deny Josh Cann and from the break away Telephones went straight up the other end the ball finding Chris Misir who chipped the ball over Simsek. Sodbury’s Danny Coombes was very unlucky in the 58th minute when his thunderous shot struck the upright. Just a minute later the visitors went 2 - 0 up when Dhani Goldings goalbound shot was misjudged by Simsek letting the ball slip through his hands. Right from the kick off Sodbury pulled a goal back. Blammon brought off a point blank save only to see the ball fall for Danny Coombes to drive it home from close in. Two minutes later Simsek was unable to stop an Aaron McQuaid shot going through his legs for a 3 - 1 lead. The visitors almost made it four on 66 minutes, but Simsek made up for his earlier errors with a brilliant save from Ryan Hicks. James Mackie was unlucky in the 72th minute when he tried to hook the ball into the net for a second for the home side only to see Blammon finger tip it over the top. |

17th January 2015 Att - 68 CHIPPING SODBURY TOWN 2 A.Fox J.Mackie YATE TOWN RESERVES 1 S.Cousins This was the local derby of the day. Just a mile or so separate the two Clubs.
Sodbury who are riding high were looking for a win to keep them in contention at the top of the table whilst Yate are battling down the bottom half of the table. The home side took the early initiative but failed to create any sound chances and then against the run of play Yate sneaked the lead from a cross into Scott Cousins whose coolly flicked header found the bottom corner. The visitors held onto that lead until the 82nd minute before Alex Fox caught the Yate keeper off his line and lifted the ball into the net. This gave the home side a lift and 3 minutes later they grabbed the winner when Danny Coombes broke down the flank and sent in a cross for James Mackie to turn into the net. |

Sodbury went ahead on 16 minutes when Danny Coombes volleyed home from just inside the box. Thornbury only tested George Hale in the home goal once in the first half.
The second 45 minutes was spoiled by the conditions a very strong wind and the pitch cutting up quite badly. In the 79th minute Liam Barrett volleyed home an Alex Fox free kick to make the final score 3 - 0. |

21st February 2015 Att - 45 ELLWOOD 0 CHIPPING SODBURY TOWN 3 O.Clarke J.Mackie S.Jenkins The Sods come away with a 3 - 0 win but it could have been different if only the home side had not missed a penalty when the visitors were only 1 - 0 in the lead. Sodbury were much sharper for most of the game and took the lead in the 12th minute when Josh Cann slipped the ball through to Ollie Clarke to drive the ball past Tim Yemm.
A couple of minutes later Yemm pulled off a great save to deny Josh Cann giving the visitors a 2 - 0 lead. Ellwood's first effort on goal after 21 minutes was a shot from Darryl Addis from just outside the box that went way over the bar. The visitors almost got a second from a corner that Yemm failed to punch clear but the final finish went past the post. Both Coombes and Mackie had chances to put the visitors further ahead but both fired over the bar. Sodbury started well in the second half and for the first 5 minutes had the home side on the back foot. A free kick from Ellwood wide on the right almost brought a chance to level but the final shot was weak. The home side started to show a bit more determination and Darryl Addis laid the ball back for Derek Roberts whose 25 yard shot went just wide. A break up of another Ellwood attack in the 57th minute almost brought the visitors a second goal as the ball was pumped up field and Danny Coombes latched on to the ball just inside the visitors half and sped towards goal and unleashed a low shot across Yemm that left the keeper wondering as it went just the wrong side of the post. The home side had there best spell soon after this and had a great chance to level the score when Matt Addis was brought down in the box for a penalty. Ryan Pendry was nominated to take the spot kick but hit it to close to keeper George Hale who dived to his right to push the ball away. The home side’s confidence sagged and Sodbury started to take the upper hand and a great run from Ben Weaver saw the striker slip past a couple of defenders only to see his shot blocked by Steve Blaby at the last moment. A minute later Sodbury went 2 - 0 up with a superb pass from Ollie Clarke that split the home defence and enabled James Mackie to slide the ball past Yemm. Sodbury made sure of the points in the 79th minute as Ben Weavers cross from the left was driven home by Sam Jenkins. This defeat for the home side was the 7th on the trot and drops them dangerously close to the relegation zone. |

Although play was fairly even in the first 45 minutes it was the visitors who went into the break with a 1 - 0 lead after Liam Powell had curled the ball around the wall from a free kick in the 28th minute.
James Mackie was unlucky when he hit the cross bar from 30 yards that would have put the score level. Sodbury did level the score on 61 minutes when Danny Coombes drove the ball into the bottom corner from 20 yards. Boco snatched the 3 points on 72 minute when a shot from Danny Brister took a deflection before ending up in the Sodbury net. |

28th March 2015 Att - 100 AEK BOCO 4 L.Crewe L.Powell J.Scott D.Werrett CHIPPING SODBURY TOWN 3 J.Mackie B.Weaver D.Coombes An excellent game at Greenbank Road Hanham where AEK Boco ran out 4 - 3 winners over close rivals Chipping Sodbury Town. It was Sodbury who went into the break with a 2 - 1 lead but an outstanding performance by the home side in the second half turned the game in their favour. The first effort on goal came after 8 minutes with an in-swinging free kick taken by Darren Werrett out on the right that saw George Hale diving at the foot of the post to save. A few minutes later a 25 yard power driver from Liam Crew was deflected around the post for a corner by Hale.
Sodbury had their first chance to open the scoring on 24 minutes when home keeper Joe Pople misjudged the flight and Danny Coombes picked the ball up but it was an almost impossible angle to squeeze the ball home and it ran across goal and out for a goal kick. In the 27th minute the visitors went 1 - 0 up from a long punt up field by keeper Hale that bounced between two home defenders and Sodbury’s James Mackie was quick to react and ran clear to slide the ball past Pople. The home side reacted to that and within 3 minutes they were on level terms and it came from a break down the right flank by Jordan Scott who sent a low cross to the near post and Darren Werrett was there to steer the ball home. On 38 minutes Sodbury were back in front with a move down the left and a shot from Ben Weaver that Pople could only parry with the rebound falling straight to James Mackie to restore the lead. The home side looked the more determined right from the start of the second half and when they were awarded a free kick 25 yards out on 59 minutes and straight in front of goal no one was expecting anything other than a chip into the box, but Liam Powell had other ideas as he hit his shot over the wall and then saw it dip just under the bar to level the score. A minute later Darren Werrett saw his shot dip towards goal but it just cleared the bar. Sodbury might have gone back in front on 62 minutes but a free kick launched into the box was met by James Mackie but the header went just over. At the other end Jordan Scott went close as the ball was deflected by Hale but a goal kick was given. The home side took the lead on 66 minutes with a superb move down the right by Jordan Scott who cut the ball back for Liam Crewe to strike a 25 yard screamer into the roof of the net. The home side were bubbling and went further ahead six minutes later from a great cross to the far post by Darren Werrett that found Jordan Scott to head past Hale. Sodbury rallied and made it interesting in the 81st minute when Danny Coombes drove the ball into the corner to make it 4 - 3. The home side responded well and kept the visitors at bay for the remainder of the game. |

The first 45 minutes did not produce much in the way of chances the highlight which should have given the home side the lead was a penalty award in the 37th minute after Rangers defender Aaron Day up ended Sam Jenkins – Tim Baker was the player given the chance from 12 yards but saw his shot well saved by Rangers keeper Sam Burgess.
Rangers took the lead on 48 minutes from a well taken 25 yard free kick from Montell Ferguson that finished up in the bottom corner of the Sodbury net. This woke the home side up and they started to get control of the game and in the 70th minute James Mackie headed home at the far post from a Danny Coombes cross. |

6th April 2015 Att - 128 CHELTENHAM CIVIL SERVICE 3 J.Evans J.Sklenar C.Smith CHIPPING SODBURY TOWN 3 O.Clarke L.Barrett J.Mackie On a glorious sunny afternoon 128 spectators turned out to watch this top of the table clash. The home side started well and took the game to their opponents for the first 15 minutes. Teejay Bick sent his 25 yard free kick just over the bar in the second minute.
In the 7th minute the home side almost went ahead when a long ball into the Sodbury 6 yard box had keeper George Hale trying to fist the ball clear but succeeded in punching it across goal and Josh Cann clearing off the line as Paul Holmes closed in. Jack Sklenar starting his second game after a long injury problem broke clear down the left but could not keep his shot down as it disappeared over the bar. Sodbury’s first attempt on goal after 20 minutes came from Ben Weaver a low shot that home keeper Tim Griffiths did well to keep out. A couple of minutes later Chris Pates had to head the ball over his own bar from a well taken free kick from Sodbury. On 25 minutes the visitors were awarded another free kick 20 yards out and to the left of the box. Ollie Clarke’s well flighted shot gave Griffiths no chance 1 - 0 to the visitors. The home side had a good chance to pull a goal back from the edge of the box but Sklenar hit the free kick well over. A minute later a cross from Sodbury’s Ben Weaver found Justin Cattle with a free header but the striker headed over the bar. The home side were fortunate in the 34th minute when Jonny Evans was brought down in the box and Sklenar levelled the score from the spot. The home side almost took the lead on 39 minutes but Sklenar’s fierce drive hit the underside of the crossbar and was cleared. Sodbury got back in front in the 41st minute when Liam Barrett’s drive was handled in the box but the ball finished up in the net and the referee allowed the goal. Just a minute before the break a long ball up field from the Sodbury keeper caught the home defence and their keeper out as James Mackie slipped the ball around Griffiths to roll it into an empty net. For the first 32 minutes of the second half neither side were able to create anything until James Mackie made a good break down the left flank before striking his shot just wide. The home side got their first shot on target in the second half after 36 minutes when Holmes hit a low shot into the corner of the goal making Hale dive to save. A minute later and out of the blue Cheltenham pulled a goal back from a harmless looking cross from the left to the edge of the box for Cameron Smith to drive the ball into the corner of the net. A rare attack from the visitors a few minutes later and a cracking cross shot from James Mackie saw Griffiths at full stretch to push the ball away. At the other end Holmes fired over with the goal at his mercy. Then in the last minute of the game the home side got the all important goal to give them a point. Teejay Bick sent the ball up to Paul Holmes and he headed it down for Jonny Evans to drive the ball past Hale. |

25th April 2015 Att - 56 CHIPPING SODBURY TOWN 0 CHELTENHAM CIVIL SERVICE 2 S.Midwinter J.Sklenar It was Sodbury’s last game in the Marcliff Gloucestershire County Football League as they have finished third in the table and have acquired the necessary Ground Grading Criteria to play at Step 6 next season. Sodbury could well have got something from this game but the difference was in the finishing and the excellent defending by the Champions. The visitor’s got off to a good start and John Evans was prevented from putting them ahead by the legs of keeper George Hale after 8 minutes. On 15 minutes the home side had their first chance to open the scoring as an in-swinging corner from the left was bundled off the line by Cameron Smith. Jack Sklenar got the ball into the Sodbury net after a good build up but it was ruled out for offside.
In the 30th minute keeper George Hale read Cameron Smiths free kick well and made the save look easy. On 34 minutes Justin Cattle broke through the Cheltenham defence and with a clear shot on goal looked odds on to score but keeper Tim Griffiths had other ideas as the striker shot he smothered the ball but it escaped back to Cattle whose second shot was pushed away by Griffiths for a corner. A rasping shot from James Mackie a couple of minutes later just cleared the visitors bar. Sodbury had a free kick on the left near the goal line that was pumped into the box and looked all the way a goal until Chris Pates got back to clear the ball off the line. Two minutes before the break Cheltenham stole the lead. John Evans picked up the ball in midfield before threading it through for Jack Sklenar to run clear - round Hale and slide the ball into an empty net. Sodbury were caught cold 2 minutes into the second half when Stuart Midwinter was put clear to hammer the ball past Hale for a 2 - 0 lead. Sklenar went very close to making it 3 - 0 in the 48th minute his shot was just wide of the post. John Evans should have made it three in the 51st minute when Hale had ventured out to the edge of the box to try and clear the ball as it looping up for Evans to head at an empty goal but he only succeeded in putting it wide. Chances were not coming for the home side but on 72 minutes Danny Coombes had a great chance to pull a goal back for the home side but fired his shot straight at Griffiths. |
